We know the feeling: you look at that sheer dress, the mesh top, or your favorite tulle skirt, and push them to the back of the closet as soon as the temperature drops.
There is a simple way to keep those pieces in rotation all year: invisible layering. It looks like bare skin, but it’s actually a warm, cozy extra layer using skin-tone tights, bodysuits, catsuits, or gloves.
That’s exactly where our Skin Tones come in.1. What Is “Invisible Layering”? An optical illusion.
The fabric you choose is key for the illusion:
Shiny Underlayer: Real skin isn’t reflective. If the fabric is too shiny, it catches the light and reflects it, your skin becomes glowy! If that’s the effect you’re going for. Perhaps our Oily tights (Style#1003 )are a good fit for this. DIY tip! You can also cut the crotch area and top of the legs and turn it into a top. You put your head through the crotch area and your arms where the legs should go. So you have this oily, silky finish on arms and legs.
MatteUndergarments: This is the opposite effect. Since we offer seamless products this can be very realistic. You choose from a full catsuit our Style# 5010 or go for shirt (Style# 5012) + Tights (Style# 1053) combo.
You end up with a creative, light outfit, and your body stays wrapped in a warm second skin.
2. How to choose your “Second Skin” shade
Here is a method that works very well: match your shadow.
Check the shadow: Stand in natural light (by a window is perfect). Look at the shadow directly under your jaw/neck, or the inside of your arm.
Pick that shade: Choose a tone that looks close to that shadow color, rather than the lightest part of your face. When you match the lightest area of your skin, legs and arms can look flat or “chalky” in photos. A slightly deeper tone behaves more like real skin.
Between two shades?
Go for the slightly deeper one. On camera and in daylight, it reads as a natural shadow or a soft tan.
If you like to have a color swatch you can also order it here, so you can compare it directly against your skin.
With the right base layer, those “summer-only” pieces move into the cold months too. Sheer dresses, minis and light fabrics stay in use; the only change is what goes underneath. Your style stays the same; your “second skin” layer quietly does the technical work to keep you warm.
Best for: Transparent dresses, tulle skirts, lace pieces, mesh tops.
Try a bodysuit #5004 + tights #1053 combo (or a full catsuit #5014) in your matching skin tones shade.
From the outside, it looks like that delicate dress or top sits right on your skin, but you’re fully covered from neck to toe.
B) Wearing the “Short Sleeve” garments
Best for: T-shirts, vests, strap dresses, sleeveless tops, corsets. If you want to keep the sleeve or shoulder visible. Add our seamless long gloves (Style #3607)or a seamless armsocks shirt (style #5012) in your skin tone underneath. The outfit keeps its original shape, and your arms get a full coverage layer that you can style with your favorite statement jewelry.
Best for: Skirts, shorts and mini dresses.
Pair minis with opaque tights (Style #1053) in your skin tones shade. You can layer it up with our Sheer Tights (Style# 1003) for a glossy finish or use any of our fishnet styles if you want to add a festive touch our glitter fishnets are the ones! (Style# 1451)
Styling Tip
Match your shoes to your tights (or get very close). This visually lengthens the leg and creates a clean line from hip to toe.
